LIGHTING STYLE GUIDE

THERE IS A LOT OF CHOICE, BUT DON'T WORRY...

During your shoot you will be able to select two different lighting styles. I have put together this guide to help you pick! Most people check out this guide and our instagram page for the latest images and they screenshot their two favourites to show me at their shoot.

PoleOclock Images uses colored lighting, not solid backdrops. The lighting varies slightly between shots, like an artist mixing paint - each photo has its own unique color palette.

DYNAMIC

Back when PoleOclock Images began this was the first style created, it slowly disappeared but it is back and better than ever! This style is done with two contrasting colours lighting the body and a background that adds drama and depth. This style come in many different options due to the mixture of colour combinations you can choose from. The coloured light will be directed onto your skin and outfit will may give a different result depending on the colours chosen. Outfits made from shinny material look amazing but so do simple solid colours too.

DARK DYNAMIC

Let’s get a little dark. Dark dynamic was created to give a sexy glow to your shape. This lighting style is created by two lights reflecting either side of you, this can create amazing contrasting shadows which are best used to their advantage, side on shapes or poses where you can direct your face towards a light. There’s a few other things to take into consideration with dark dynamic, it’s dark! So we would recommend keeping your outfit nice and minimal in size or light in colour.

BODY GLOW

New in 2023.

My new favourite, this lighting style just does wonders for your skin.

I love the way it helps your moves pop but still give you that dynamic light look.

GREYSCALE

This Classic lighting style is simplistic but dramatic, it is created with lights highlighting the edges of your body in front of a white background (which then looks grey). It’s the perfect style to pick if you’re looking for something timeless. Outfits that go well with this style are monochromatic looks or rich reds and leopard prints. Bright coloured outfits also really pop in the colour version of the greyscale. Oh yeah, when you pick greyscale you’ll get both a colour and black&white version of your image. Greyscale can be done a little lighter or more dark and contrasty, you can choose or you can let Zoe create what she thinks is best depending on your moves and outfit. In Zoe’s oppinion greyscale is great for most things, so you can’t really go wrong if you picking greyscale.

SILHOUETTE

This style is one of Zoe’s personal favourites, it's simple yet so elegant. This look is created by lighting the white background and limiting the light projected onto your body. Due to the limited visibility on the body this style is great for complimenting the figure, it also supports most outfit choices but I usually recommend something dark to help blend the outfit into the body shape.  We highly recommend sticking to ‘side on’ moves, dynamic shapes and up the pole tricks. It’s the perfect style for enhancing the beautiful shapes we can create on the pole. In Zoe’s opinion she prefers the up the pole shots for silhouette appose to using the floor.

COLOUR GRADIENT

The Colour Gradient is iconic of PoleOclock Images. This style can vary the completed image greatly due to the wealth of colour choices.

This look is achieved by selecting two colours for the background which will blend from one colour to another, this can be two complementing colours like Yellow and Orange or maybe Green and Blue, you can also blend two contrasting colours like Orange and Purple or Red and Blue etc... both offering great results.  I would recommend going for an outfit that complements / contrasts with the colours you have selected for the background.  If you are unsure what colour of outfitI I suggest keeping it black, it's classic and works perfectly with this look.

With the colour just being directed onto the background this means your skin tones and your outfit will stay true to its natural colours. Perfect lighting for pole shapes up the pole in Zoe’s opinion.

SINGLE COLOUR

Similar to the Colour Gradient style but with just one colour.  Simple and effective.

You can select pinks, greens, red, blue, teal. As shown in the examples below.

COLOUR SILHOUETTE

This style works in the same way as the Silhouette style but instead of a white surround you can select a colour or even two colours similar to the colour gradient style. The body will have limited light meaning the figure will be dark, again great for creating those dramatic shapes.

SIMPLISTIC WHITE

A simple white background and clear lighting style might be exactly what your looking for, this is perfect for documenting a move for demonstration, website use or promotional content. It’s white so wear any colour works, but I would advise you to avoid white to prevent you from blending in.
